Mayor takes erring officials to task

Rajamahendravaram: Proposals worth Rs 19 crore have been sent to the government for the development of the drainage system in the Municipal Corporation of Rajamahendravaram, said Mayor Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai. The government will forward the proposal to the 14th Finance Commission.

The Mayor conducted a review meeting with engineering officials on Tuesday regarding the drainage works and sanction of funds. The Mayor said the Corporation was spending huge amounts to strengthen the drainage system in the city and told officials to make sure that problems are not repeated.

She said that good results could only obtained by making use of funds in a proper manner. She expressed ire at officials for not implementing the suggestions made in her previous interaction with them and not solving the inundation problem in low-lying areas even after spending huge money.

She said the funds of the 14th Finance Commission would be utilised for solving the inundation problem, sewage-water treatment and solid waste management and added that 10 percent would be utilized for providing drinking water. She directed the officials to curb encroachments which were becoming a serious obstacle to solving the drainage problems..
