Pushkaram-readiness: RTC moots 20 temporary bus stations in Krishna region

VIJAYAWADA: The Krishna region of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is gearing up to ensure a hassle-free journey to the devotees visiting the city and its suburbs for the 12-day Krishna Pushkarams this year.
As per the directions of the government, the RTC officials decided to set up 20 temporary bus stations in and around the city, to reduce traffic congestion at Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS).
These temporary bus stations will be increased further, as and when needed, and linked to the Pushkar Nagars being identified at various places in the city. Similarly, mini buses will be operated to Pushkar Nagars from several locations.
The temporary bus stations will be set up at Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (to accommodate devotees from Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, East and West Godavari districts), Zakir Hussain College Ground, Truck Terminal at Ibrahimpatnam and VTPS A Colony Grounds ( Hyderabad and other Telangana districts),  YV Rao Estate and Siddhartha Engineering College in Kanuru (Machilipatnam and Nuzvid). Similarly, private lands in Tadepalli will be also used to accommodate devotees from Guntur and other Rayalaseema districts.
Meanwhile, the city terminal on the PNBS premises has been renovated with modern infrastructure to accommodate 2,000 passengers. As traffic diversion is major concern for the officials in the city, discussions have been held with the higher officials and district administration to ensure smooth conduct of the pushkarams, said RTC deputy chief traffic manager A Sudhakar.
The renovated PNBS terminal will be an advantage to ensure smooth flow of passengers during the event, when compared with the bus terminal at Rajahmundry. Computer reservation counters, seating accommodation, help centres, drinking water facility, canteens, tents and temporary toilets will also be developed in all the temporary bus stations. Even as the temporary bus station works are nearing completion, the RTC is making efforts to arrange medical camps at temporary bus stations for the convenience of the devotees, he added.
