Mega Events in Store at Vizag Fest

VISAKHAPATNAM: Authorities are giving finishing touches to the arrangements for the Vizag Fest 2015, beginning Friday. Apart from the book exhibition, cultural programmes, ‘Walk for books’ programme, 3D sculptures and a large number of stalls will be the major attractions.

Fest vice-chairman and MLC MVS Sarma told newsmen that as a part of the book expo, the programme ‘Walk for books’ would be held on April 11 at 5 pm. Students in large number, AU professors and bibliophiles will take part. “The walk will start from Swarnabharathi Indoor Stadium to AU Grounds,” said Sarma. The participants will be received by the chief guests at the venue. Large 3D sculptures, one with a theme of Nirbhaya and another under the theme of ‘Visakha Ukku Udyamam’ will be other attractions.

Around 170 stalls will display over 1,50,000 books with 10 per cent discount on purchases. Sstate and Central governments, banks and companies will set up around 100 commercial stalls. The state departments of agriculture, health, industries and Panchayat Raj will also have representations, while IOC, HPCL, ONGC and others will set up 18 stalls from the Central government’s side.

Organisers said that there was splendid response to the competitions announced on the occasion. There will be 322 science exhibits, 162 short films, 32 novels and 382 poems vied in the competition. About 400 cartoon serials and 75 short films will be screened from 8 pm to 10 pm.
