Krishna delta likely to be `no building zone’

In what could be bad news for realtors in the new capital region, the Andhra Pradesh government has proposed a “no building zone“ in a major portion of the Krishna delta.The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) will make an announcement once it gets hold of the master plan being prepared by the Singapore government.

The macro-level perspective plan, submitted by the Singapore government during chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s recent trip to the city state, has identified two agricultural zones in and around the capital region, similar to the `no building zones’ in Singapore. The Singapore team suggested the idea keeping in view the needs of the people over the next 50 years. “The perspective plan submitted by the Singapore team has clearly mentioned the zones. After studying them, we will call for public opinion and notify them,“ CRDA commissioner N Srikanth told TOI.

According to sources, nearly 70 per cent of the Krishna delta area will come under the no building zone.As per the plan, these zones will come up around Nuz ividu, Gudiwada, Pamarru and Mylavaram. In these areas, all kinds of government and private construction activities will be barred.

Officials said such prohibited zones will not be notified in the core capital area. The areas around Tulluru will also be exempted.“No building zones are not applicable in Vijayawada, Nuzvidu, Gudiwada, Sattenapalle, Guntur, Tenali, and Nandigama,“ sources said.

Impressed with the development in Singapore, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday directed his officials to adopt new technologies and take independent decisions to ensure that the residuary state achieves doubledigit growth in the next couple of years.

“I will give you all the freedom to adopt new technologies to think out of the box. Take independent decisions wherever possible.Formulate new strategies for each department and each district,“ Naidu told a meeting of secretaries, heads of departments and collectors here. Stressing on the importance of corruption-free administration to achieve growth, the CM said his aim was to create an ecosystem where accountability, transparency and growth thrive.

He asked the officials present in the meeting, especially collectors, to identify the growth engines for each district in order to boost their economic activities. “I want separate developmental strategies for every district in the state,“ he said and urged them to come up with long term as well as short term plans.
