NTPC Pudimadaka project cleared by MoEF

NTPC Simhadri Power Plant near Visakhapatnam. – A file Photo Ministry of Environment and Forest has accorded clearance to the terms of reference submitted by NTPC for conducting environmental studies for its 4000 MW super critical power project at Pudimadka near Visakhapatnam.

Earlier, the expert advisory committee of MoEF had sought revised layout plan following objections that the layout was falling in the vicinity of a water body.

The State Government has already allotted 1,200 acres in Rambilli and Atchutapuram mandals for the project.

This is the first time in India that NTPC is executing 1000 MW coal-fired units with super critical technology to achieve efficiency at the optimum level and reduce emissions drastically. The NTPC release stated on Wednesday that they would need 13.7 million tonne imported coal annually. Preliminary studies for the project have been completed and approved by the NTPC board.
