AP registers highest one-day spike of 216, tally crosses 5000

VIJAYAWADA: Two more persons died from Covid-19 in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday as the coronavirus cases surged past 5,000 mark with the state registering 216 new cases, the highest single-day spike so far.
The state’s cumulative tally increased to 5,029, while the Covid-19 toll increased to 77. AP witnessed more than 200 novel coronavirus cases in a day for the second time in the last four days.
Of the 216 fresh cases reported on Tuesday, 69 persons are from other states were diagnosed with the pandemic virus. With the new cases, the infections among the foreign returnees and people from other states crossed the 1,000 marks. Their total caseload increased to 1,039.
There are currently 2,177 active cases in Andhra Pradesh with 2,775 recoveries and 77 deaths. The state tested 15,085 samples between 9 am on Monday and 9 am on Tuesday.
The three Covid-19 patients from Rajahmundry, who were the first to avail of the home isolation facility in Andhra Pradesh about two weeks ago, was declared cured as their test results turned out to be negative.
Meanwhile, the East Godavari district officials started tracing the contacts of a 40-year-old man, who died in a hospital in Vijayawada while undergoing treatment for diabetes and tested positive for Covid-19 posthumously.
Unaware of his Covid-19 infection, his relatives brought the body to his native village in Tondangi mandal and conducted the last rites on Sunday.
