Fire at oil mill, no casualties reported

Rajahmundry: A fire broke out at the Sri Chakra oil mill in Peera Ramachandra Puram village under Anaparthi mandal in East Godavari district on Wednesday. Eight fire tender vehicles were called in to douse the fire, which was put out after eight hours.
Sources said modernisation works at the refinery unit of the oil mill, where the fire broke out at 7:50 am on Wednesday, had been underway since the last three months.
Though the reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained, an electrical short circuit or welding works at the factory are suspected to have caused the accident. A fire tender from Anaparthi arrived at the spot initially, before fire tenders from other parts of the district were called in.
The fire department prevented the spread of the fire to the main factory and oil storage tanks near the refinery. According to the management, the value of the factory is estimated at Rs 30 crore, while the damage caused by the fire is estimated at between Rs 10 to Rs 15 crore.
Speaking to TOI, Anaparthi sub-inspector said the factory management had indicated electrical short circuit as the cause of fire in its complaint. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
