Rajamahendravaram: MP Margani Bharat Ram demanded that the Central government bring tough laws to stop atrocities on women which is the need of the hour. In many rape and murder cases the accused are escaping using the loopholes in the acts.
Speaking in Parliament on Disha incident on Tuesday, he said Article 376 (1) of Constitution was amended to introduce the Nirbhaya Act but in vain. Still the accused in Nirbhaya incident was not punished, he added.
He said that it was unfortunate that women in the country were still in the grip of fear about the increasing atrocities on them and it became regular in the country. Accused in Disha case should be punished strictly and it should be a lesson to others, he added.
He demanded Union Home Ministry to initiate steps to amend the existing laws to protect women from atrocities.
