Searches on ASI yield assets worth ₹3 crore

Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) raided properties of an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police and reportedly unearthed disproportionate assets worth ₹3 crore.

The ASI, identified as Gunnam Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Chowdary, is posted at the Kakinada Port Police Station. Simultaneous raids were conducted at five places on the residences of his relatives and close acquaintances at Yanam, Gandepalli, Samarlakot, Aratlakatta and other places in East Godavari district on Wednesday.

Chowdary joined the police force as a Armed Reserve (AR) constable in East Godavari district in 1984, and became a civil police constable in 1989. He was promoted as head constable in 2009 and became an ASI in 2013.

The ACB teams detected an RCC building (church) at Aratlakatta village, three multi-storied buildings at Yanam and Kakinada, seven plots and agricultural lands at different places in East Godavari and Vizianagaram districts.

Investigating officers seized gold jewellery weighing 1,424 grams, 181 grams of silver jewellery, fixed deposits worth ₹7.98 lakh, promissory notes for ₹30 lakh and ₹6.17 lakh cash in bank accounts, said ACB Director General Kumar Vishwajeet.

The ASI would be produced in ACB court at Rajamahendravaram and the case is being investigated, the DG said.
