Aurangabad: The South Central Railway (SCR), in the wake of two incidents of derailments within a quick span of time, has reviewed the preparedness of all divisions for carrying out the rescue operations.
In the latest review meeting, the SCR top-brass has asked for mobilization of essential equipment during any disaster. A goods train witnessed derailment between Rajahmundry and Godavari section within the SCR jurisdiction on Monday night. Earlier, two trains collided at the Kacheguda station in Telangana’s Hyderabad on November 11 — injuring 16 people, including a driver who was trapped in his badly mangled cabin for eight hours.
The incident occurred when an MMTS train and an express train had a head-on collision between Kacheguda and Malakpet railway stations in Hyderabad. “The review meeting was chaired by the general manager during which he instructed the divisional authorities to ensure necessary preparedness to handle any eventuality. The top-brass also took stock of the necessary manpower and safety equipment,” a SCR official said.
The meeting, which was attended by the divisional railway managers among others, also witnessed extensive review of the safety aspects of train operations. The authorities also took review of track fitness, speed restrictions, signaling system, among other measures.
“The divisional authorities were also told to focus on all track fittings, weld failures, signal failures and instructed to carry out joint inspections across the zone to find the root cause for failures,” Ch Rakesh, chief public relation officer of SCR, said.
