Rajamahendravaram: An awareness meeting and a rally were organized in the city on Thursday in connection with World Shelterless People Day under the aegis of Swarnandhra Seva Samithi (SSS) and MEPMA.
Participating in the awareness meeting held at night shelter at Kamabala tank, MEPMA manager Sri Devi said that there is no funds crunch to start any number of night shelters in the city. Many hapless people are taking shelter using the night shelters.
The government is very much particular in this regard and said along with providing shelter to the hapless people, necessary care also taken relating to their health. SSS founder Dr Gubbala Ramababu said the existing night shelter is not sufficient and there was a problem in accommodating them.
At present about 70 persons are using the night shelter as against capacity to accommodate 50 persons, he said. He underlined the need to start more night shelters in the city to accommodate more shelterless people and assured to serve them.
