ANU prof arrested for harassment

Rajahmundry: The police arrested assistant professor Nimmagadda Surya Raghavendra, the head of the department of English of Adikavi Nannaya University (ANU) on Thursday night. The professor is facing charges of sexual harassment.
The professor was arrested by SI Sravani of the Prakash Nagar police station, the cop who has been appointed as the special investigating officer in this case.
Raghavendra was produced before the principal junior civil judge cum judicial magistrate of first class in Rajahmundry on Thursday itself and was sent on remand.
Three girl students of the MA English course at Adikavi Nannaya University had written to chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy a few days ago alleging that the assistant professor had sexually harassed them.
They had alleged that the professor would call them to his home on the pretext of special classes and used to harass them.
The AP state council of higher education had directed the university authorities to conduct an inquiry.
The registrar of the university, S Teki had lodged a complaint against Raghavendra at the Rajanagaram police station on October 14. The Rajanagaram police had registered a case under sections 354 (A), 354(D), 509 and 506 of the IPC.
