The East Godavari police on Monday arrested two persons, who were allegedly responsible for the boat accident in Godavari river on September 15.
The police earlier arrested three persons, including two women, who were the owners of the boat, which capsized in the river, killing more than 40 tourists.
The arrested are Sir Arthur Cotton A.C. Boat Owners’ Association president Geda Veera Venkataramana Satya Naga Murali and The Papikondalu Boat Owners and Agents Welfare Association organiser Yerramsetti Raja Rao.
Rampachodavaram Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vakul Jindal produced the accused before the media. They were produced in the court and were remanded in judicial custody, the ASP said.
Insurance help centre
At a press conference held at Rajamahendravarm, East Godavari Superintendent of Police (SP) Adnan Nayeem Asmi and Rajahmundry Urban Police district SP Shemushi Bajpai said an insurance assistance centre had been opened at the Rajahmundry SP’s Office to assist the kin of the deceased of the accident.
The police and the staff of the New India Assurance Company would be available at the centre.
“Following the directions of Director-General of Police (DGP) Gautam Sawang, the help desk has been arranged.
Police will issue the FIR, inquest, post-mortem report and related documents to the family members of the deceased,” Mr. Nayeem Asmi said.
Two bodies retrieved
Meanwhile, rescue teams retrieved two more bodies in the Godavari. The bodies were in highly decomposed condition and police are on the process of identifying them, the SP said.
Meanwhile, expert swimmers, NDRF, SDRF, Police and the AP Fire department personnel are continuing search at Kachluru, Devipatnam, Polavaram and the downstream of Godavari River for the missing persons.
