Officials of the Legal Metrology Department conducted raids on rythu bazaars and fish markets at different districts in the State on Sunday.
Teams, led by Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology, Inspectors and Deputy Inspectors, checked the balances and the weighing stones being used by the traders in the markets.
IG Legal Metrology M. Kantha Rao said that raids were conducted at Rajamahendravaram, Vizianagaram, Guntur and West Godavari districts, and cases were registered against the traders who were deceiving the public with false weighing machines and stones.
“As part of awareness programmes, the Legal Metrology Department has arranged ‘Dharmakatas’ at some fish and meat markets and rythu bazaars. Officials gave demonstrations on how to detect frauds, fake weighing stones and balances. Products purchased by the consumers were weighed free of cost to create awareness on cheating,” the IG said.
