60 prisoners to operate HP bunk in Rajamahendravaram

Rajamahendravaram: The Prisons department is implementing many reforms for the prisoners as part of jail reforms across the State. As part of it, the Central Prison in the historical city stood in first place.

The Central Prison has recently started a Hindustan Petroleum Bunk adjacent to the prison, in addition to the existing Indian Oil Corporation petrol bunk which was started two years ago.

The recently started HP bunk is the largest one having many facilities to the customers. According to an official of Prisons department, the bunk was having facilities such as CNG filling, electric car charging and car wash in addition to existing petrol and diesel filling.

Sweet shop, bakery, Araku coffee stall and ATM facility are other attractions in the bunk available under one roof. The petrol bunk was started with five pumps with an investment of Rs 4 crore and as many as 60 open air jail prisoners works on shift system in the bunk.

At present, IOC bunk is doing a business of Rs 24 lakh per day and getting good response from the customers by giving quality diesel and petrol.

Currently, the Prisons department is maintaining two bunks in Kadapa, two bunks in Rajamahendravaram, one bunk each in Visakhapatnam, Ongole, Dharmavaram and in Penukonda.

All the bunks are running well and customers are also expressing satisfaction on their functioning.

The department will issue certificates to the prisoners, who worked in the bunks which helps them to get jobs after completion of their imprisonment.
