In a major operation, the Central Crime Station (CCS) police arrested three members of a dacoit gang. They also took a juvenile into custody.
Police recovered 1,258 grams gold ornaments worth ₹54.60 lakh and 17.2 kg silver jewellery, valued at ₹9.65 lakh. They also seized a laptop and two cars.
Disclosing this to newsmen on Friday, Police Commissioner Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said the gang members —Bhukya Nagaraju Naik, of A. Kondur village of Krishna district, Pulletikurthi Umamaheswara Rao of Old Guntur and Banavath Raja of Vissannapet mandal of Krishna district — were wanted in hundreds of cases in AP and Telangana.
The 16-year-old was allegedly involved in two offences, the Police Commissioner said.
“Two other suspected members of the gang — Guttikonda Pavan Kumar and Nallamothu Suresh — are in currently lodged in Visakhapatnam Central Prison,” Mr. Tirumala Rao said.
Pavan Kumar is a engineering graduate. The gang committed five offences in Vijayawada, three robberies in West Godavari, one in each in Rajamahendravaram and Guntur districts, he said.
Police to seek custody
The gang had been committing thefts for the last 15 years. Nagaraju Naik, Umamaheswara Rao and Banavath Raju, earlier underwent imprisonment in some theft cases.
The team led by CCS Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Prakasa Rao arrested the accused who were travelling in two cars, during vehicle check at Kandrika village on Friday.
The investigation officers will seek custody of the accused after producing them in a court.
Deputy Commissioner of Police B. Rajakumari was among those present.
