Rajahmundry: Forest authorities on Wednesday seized 25 teak logs measuring 1.25 cubic metres and worth around Rs 1 lakh from Kindra village of Rajavommangi mandal in East Godavari.
According to forest authorities, the tractor smuggling the logs met with an accident and overturned. While the culprits involved in the smuggling arranged another tractor and were loading the logs on to it, forest authorities received a tip off. They raided the area and seized the logs and the vehicle.
The authorities are yet to establish the source of the teak logs and the identity of the culprits. Based on preliminary inspections, the teak logs may have originated from a patta land in the forest area.
Forest authorities booked a case under relevant section of AP Forest Act, 1967 and took up investigation.
