Visakhapatnam: One person died and another sustained injuries after an oil tanker exploded in Autonagar, Gajuwaka, on Tuesday.
The explosion, which could be heard half-a kilometer away, took place when Siriki Nageswara Rao (55) of Rajahmundry was engaged in welding work. Nageswara Rao died on the spot and the tanker driver K Appa Rao was left grievously injured.
Police revealed that the owner of the oil tanker had brought it to Nageswara Rao for gas welding. He was supposed to repair holes in the tanker’s body. But it is being alleged that the tanker had noxious gases left inside it. Hence when Nageswara Rao began welding the tanker exploded.
The police sent the body for post-mortem and the driver was rushed to the hospital. They have registered a case. Nageswara Rao is survived by his wife Adilakhmi and two children teenaged children.
