Kadapa: The Rayachoti assembly seat has by and large been the bastion of the Congress who has won it eight times. The YSRCP and TDP have won it twice, each.
YSR Congress party which has renominated sitting MLA Gadikota Srikanth Reddy is confident of yet another term.
The constituency’s fate which falls under the Rajampet Lok Sabha segment has a considerable Muslim population. About 70,000 Muslim voters will be deciding the fate of the candidates.
YSRCP supremo Jaganmohan Reddy who has toured the constituency has assured the Muslim community of MLC post and protection of properties under the Waqf Board, which are illegally occupied in Rayachoti town.
He also promised to complete pending works of Veligonda and Handri Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS).
Meanwhile, Gadikota Srikanth has maintained that development in the constituency has suffered as the ruling TDP government had not allocated funds.
In 2014, YRSCP’s Gadikota Srikanth defeated his TDP contender Ramesh Kumar Reddy with a margin of 34,682 votes.
