It’s raining notes in Telangana, Rs 22 crore cash seized since March 10

HYDERABAD: Telangana police have seized Rs 22.66 crore cash across the state since March 10, when the model code of conduct came into force. Associates of three prominent political leaders have also been caught with cash, which police says was being transported to bribe voters. Since Thursday, a total of Rs 4.17 crore has been seized.
In Hyderabad commissionerate limits, Rs 9.45 crore was seized on Thursday, including RS 3.29 crore from a jewellery businessman in Banjara Hills. Names of two top Telangana Congress leaders also surfaced, apart from TDP Rajahmundry MP Murali Mohan. However, he denied the charges, saying it is done by opponents.
Police believes that transportation of cash is likely to increase in the next few days and is focussing on Vikarabad, Malkajgiri and Secunderabad.
In connection with Rs 3.29 crore seized in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar said they are verifying the trail of the cash and its role in the election process. “Based on a tip-off, police organised checks and they came across one Chandrakanth, who was riding a twowheeler, and seized Rs 1 crore from him. Later, based on the information given by him, additional Rs 2.29 crore was seized from one Anil Kumar,” he said.
On Wednesday, a relative of a prominent leader was caught by the Task Force police while he was transporting Rs 48 lakh.
