PCB engineer ‘amassed assets worth crores of rupees’

In a huge catch, properties worth crores of rupees of AP Pollution Control Board (APPCB) Environmental Engineer (EE) Evani Satyanarayana were seized by the ACB in raids conducted since early Wednesday. The ACB teams searched the houses of his family members and friends in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

“We unearthed six house plots, four flats, 4.4 acres of agriculture land, ₹8.5 lakh cash, ₹53 lakh bank balance, ₹52 lakh fixed deposits, ₹22.15 lakh in bank lockers, house hold articles worth ₹8.3 lakh, gold jewellery weighing 1 kg, 6 kg silver ornaments and other valuables,” said ACB Director General R.P. Thakur.

Nine teams conducted the raids in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Rajamahendravaram and Nellore and found that the EE had amassed properties disproportionate to known sources of income.

The house sites, flats and the land were registered in the names of Mr. Satyanarayana’s wife, son, daughter and benami Radhakrishna Raju, and were purchased from 1999 onwards, Mr. Thakur, who is also the DGP, said.

A native of Kothapeta in East Godavari district, Mr. Satyanarayana joined the government service as junior engineer in the APPCB in 1989 and became EE in 2000. He is working in the Regional Office, Vijayawada. He worked in different cadres at Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Nellore, Rajamahendravaram, Ramachandrapuram, Kothagudem and other places.

He is being arrested and produced before the ACB court. The case is under investigation, the DGP said.
