Fuel outlet opens on Ongole jail premises

With a view to generating more revenue to provide better facilities to jail inmates, the Prisons Department has chalked out an ambitious plan to open more fuel stations in association with the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) in the State.

“We will put to effective use vast stretches of land available on jail premises closer to arterial roads. We will also lease private land for setting up fuel stations at places with good business potential,” said Inspector General of Prisons G. Jayavardhan, after throwing open to public an IOC fuel outlet set up on the jail premises here.

Fourth outlet in State

This was the fourth one in the State, he said, adding that there were three other outlets now functioning in Rajamahendravaram, Anantapur and Kadapa. They were doing a business of more than Rs. 50 lakh each.

The revenue generated would be used to improve the barracks and provide life skills training to prisoners to help them lead a better life after their release, he explained.
