The sleuths of the Excise and Prohibition Department on Friday detained Buddiga Devudu, a bootlegger from Sanjeevaiah Nagar in Rajamahendravaram under the Preventive Detention Act and sent him to the Central prison.
‘Illicit brewing’
According to Excise Superintendent S. Lakshmikanth, the accused, a ‘notorious bootlegger’, is allegedly involved in many cases of selling illicitly brewed liquor.
“Though many cases were registered cases against him and he underwent a series of counselling sessions, Devudu failed to mend his ways,” the official said.
With East Godavari Collector and District Magistrate Kartikeya Misra issuing the preventive detention order, the Excise officials initiated action against Devudu, he added.
