Guwahati, May 3 (UNI) The newly-appointed Forest and Environment minister of Assam and his deputy today sought divine blessings as they took charge of the department at the state secretariat here.
Parimal Suklabaidya, who was allotted the Forest and Environment department in the ministry after the expansion and reshuffle last week, took charge by performing a ‘briksha puja’ at the new office.
The minister, accompanied by the new MoS Naba Doley, sought divine blessings by offering puja to saplings of several trees as priests chanted ‘slokas’ as per Vedic rituals.
Top officials of the department were also present on the occasion.
Talking to reporters later, Suklabaidya said, “We are committed to remove all lacunae in the department and make Assam into a green state.</span>
