Intensifying the protest over the demand of a special category status for Andhra Pradesh, state opposition YSR Congress Party today staged a Rail Roko protest.

The protest hit normal life in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Vishakapatnam, Samarlakota, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali, Ongole, Nellore, Renigunta, Chittoor, Kadapa, Guntakkal, Gooty, Kurnool and Anantapur where the party has a significant presence.

While the Karnataka Express was forcefully stopped by protesters at Guntakal Junction of Anantpur district affecting traffic towards Bengaluru, protesters also reached the tracks in Nellore forcing disruptions on traffic towards Chennai.

The YSRCP has also decided to block all the national highways across the constituencies in Andhra Pradesh apart from holding a Rail Roko campaign across the state.

Meanwhile, YSRCP MPs continued their hunger strike today at Andhra Pradesh Bhawan in the Capital.

Three out of the five protesting MPs have been admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in New Delhi after their indefinite hunger strike.
