Mobile tax collection counters yielding good results: civic official

The mobile counters arranged in different divisions in Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation (RMC) as a pilot project were yielding good results, said Commissioner V. Vijayarama Raju on Friday. He said that the officials have opened mobile tax collection counters in some backward colonies, particularly slum areas including Barma Colony. The officials collected Rs. 76,000 towards water tax and house tax only on Friday. A few more counters will be opened in the city on Saturday.

Special teams

The drive to collect tax arrears, which have been pending for a long time, is also giving good results. The RMC Commissioner organised a review meeting with officials.

He warned that those who have been purposefully evading tax will not be spared and water connection will be stopped immediately.

He constituted special teams to meet the evaders personally and serve final notices on them.

According to Municipal Revenue Officer Sinivasa Rao, there were arrears of Rs. 48 crore in 2017 and they have succeeded in collecting Rs. 31 crore in the present financial year. He said that they are hopeful of collecting another Rs. 7 to Rs. 10 crore before the month-end.
