Reliance calls Naidu bluff on investments!

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu gave a lot of hype when Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani visited Amaravati and had a meeting with him on Tuesday.

While Naidu government rolled out a red-carpet welcome to Ambani and even gave him a police salute in violation of protocol, the Chief Minister’s Office made tall claims on the investments worth thousands of crores committed by the Reliance group in Andhra Pradesh.

The CMO also explained how Ambani was floored by Naidu’s vision and hi-tech administration through real-time governance.

But within 24 hours, the Reliance Industries called Naidu’s bluff, of course in an indirect manner.

An official spokesperson of the RIL said Ambani’s meeting with Naidu was just a courtesy call.

There was absolutely no information whatsoever about the possible investments committed by Ambani to Naidu and whether the chief minister himself requested the RIL to invest in AP in certain projects.

The spokesman said Ambani went to AP only to review the performance of Reliance Jio, the telecom arm of RIL. “The chairman of RIL travels around the country to access the performance of Reliance Jio. So, it was a routine visit,” the spokesperson said.

Sources said Ambani regularly visits Rajahmundry to review the performance of the RIL’s gas fields in K-G basin.

So, there is nothing unusual in his visit to AP. However, he had a stopover at Amaravati at the request of Naidu and spent some time there and had dinner at the CM’s residence.

“Otherwise, there is not much significance to Ambani’s visit to Amaravati,” sources said.
