Commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Rajamahendravaram V. Vijayaramaraju on Friday said four innovative steps were taken to keep MCR in top 400 municipalities list of Swachh Survekshan in the country. He said Central survey teams will visit Rajamahendravaram on Saturday and Sunday.
Addressing the media here, he said the special drive of sanitation includes mechanized excavators to avoid manual scavenging, command and control monitoring of sanitation system, shifting of stray cattle to Gosala exclusively arranged by MCR and Jain Seva Samiti, an NGO and toilet cleaning in all schools daily twice for which an agency was outsourced. The Commissioner said ONGC gave two mechanised excavators with ₹ 45 lakh each and also took up cleaning of Godavari ghats cleaning with industrial pumps under Swacch Pakwada programme.
He said last year the city stood 46th place in the country and hoped that this year the position would further improve.
He also said the corporation introduced bio-metric attendance for sanitary workers and also encouraging them with rewards and awards for the best performance. He appealed to citizens of MCR to support them in keeping the city clean by segregating wet and dry waste.
Replying to a question, he said they want to keep the city free from open defecation and taken all steps towards this.
