India ranks 3rd in domestic air travel, new airports to connect the country regionally

India has secured 3rd place in domestic air travel after US and UK. The news was recently shared by P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Minister for Civil Aviation during flag off ceremony of IndiGo’s flight services at Tirupati airport (Tirupati to Hyderabad and Bengaluru).

The minister also bought a ticket for Hyderabad and travelled back as a passenger in the same flight. Addressing the media, Mr. Raju praised the BJP government and said that in past 70 years post Independence; India saw air connectivity to only 75 destinations all across India. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s (BJP-led) NDA government has already connected 80 new places in the country via air travel in 4 years time.

He also said “Currently, our goal is to build airports up to regional level. Under the regional air connectivity drive, the civil aviation ministry is taking up many initiatives.”

Informing further on IndiGo’s flight operations, he said that the flights would be available each day from Tirupati to Hyderabad at 10.50 am, 5.20 pm, and 8.55 pm, while return journey flights would operate to Tirupati at 6.25 am, 12.40 pm, and 7.10 pm. From Tirupati to Bengaluru, flights would operate at 8.10 am, and 2.25 pm, while return journey flights from Bengaluru would provide services at 9.30 am, and 3.40 pm. IndiGo president Aditya Gosh who was also present during the ceremony said that Indigo has been providing about a thousand domestic and international flights connecting 47 destinations.

Mr. Ghosh also added that they are also coming up with services from Rajamahendravaram too in a week’s time, while Vijayawada flight service will begin in March.

At present, IndiGo flight tickets from Tirupati to Bengaluru is 15,000 INR, and from Tirupati to Hyderabad INR 3,500.
