Hyderabad: Carpooling helps avoid festive rush

Hyderabad: Bugged with high bus fares and waiting list in trains, techies and youngsters are considering carpooling an easier way to travel this Sankranti.

Sharing a ride to work in the city has been a common phenomenon, but this festive season witnessed several commuters sharing rides.

With people living in Hyderabad for jobs going to their native places to celebrate the festival, crowds are large at bus stations and railway stations.

Santosh Reddy travelling to Rajahmundry says, “Four of my colleagues are travelling with me in my car. One of them will get down at Suryapet and two in Vijayawada. On the way back, we will pick them up. Carpooling is pocket-friendly compared to other means of transport. Also, any one person doesn’t need to drive all the way when you are travelling in a group.”

Carpooling allows more people to use one vehicle which reduces travel costs in terms of fuel used. It also provides you the home-drop facility. Software employees and college students find the ‘service’ attractive.

While those who own cars are pooling with their colleagues, rental cars too have high uptakes during festival holidays. According to Ola, more people are opting for booking a vehicle over travelling via public transport for long distance travel.

Warangal, Vijayawada and Srisailam are among the top destinations from Hyderabad on Ola Outstation.

Cab services are offering attractive outstation packages for travel enthusiasts, keeping in view the long weekend.

Software engineer Pardha Sridhar from Kukatpally says, “I am a spur-of-the-moment traveller. I hired BlaBlaCar after I was unable to arrange pooling with my friends and colleagues. I booked a seat for a pre-determined price. This certainly suits bachelors.”
