Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zone, seized 804 kg of ganja being illegally transported to Dehradun from Visakhapatnam on Sunday. Three persons involved in the illegal transportation were taken into custody.
Based on a tip-off, the officials intercepted the vehicle near Atchutapuram and seized the contraband. “The value of seized ganja in the grey market would be around Rs. 1.21 crore,” said an official release on Wednesday. The vehicle used for concealment and transportation of ganja was also seized. It is believed to have been procured near Jolaput area on Andhra Pradesh and Odisha border.
Two nabbed
Choutuppal police on Monday nabbed two persons from Andhra Pradesh and seized 84 kg of ganja. The drug was packed in 29 packets, each weighing between two and four kg.
Beeraka Prakash (41) of Rajahmundry and Poluparti Sathi Babu (27) of Visakhapatnam were caught near the toll plaza in Panthangi near Choutuppal.
Police said the market value of seized contraband would be around Rs. 8.4 lakh.
