YSR Cong. protests attack on party leader

The YSR Congress Party enforced bandh here on Thursday and organised protests elsewhere in East Godavari district against the attack on State youth wing leader Jakkampudi Raja allegedly by a Sub-Inspector. Party leaders demanded that the SI, Nagaraju, who was sent to vacancy reserve by the Superintendent of Police, be suspended immediately.

The Chamber of Commerce extended its support to the protest and closed all the shops and establishments in the city. Private schools and colleges were also closed, but government educational institutions, offices, and banks functioned as usual.

In Amalapuram, the party’s youth wing organised a dharna in front of the town police station under the leadership of former Minister Pinipe Viswaroop. Party workers raised slogans against the police accusing the latter of targeting YSRCP leaders and followers.

YSRCP leaders in Dowleswaram observed one-day relay hunger strike. Former MLC and party Rajamahendravaram parliamentary constituency in charge Kandula Durgesh, party leaders Akula Veerraju and others attended the programme.

Party spokesperson Ambati Rambabu, party leaders Pilli Subash Chandra Bose, Chalamalasetty Sunil, East Godavari in charge Kurasala Kannababu and others visited Mr. Raja at the hospital.

Later addressing the media, Mr. Ambati Rambabu said they would not relent until the SI was suspended.

“Police have to keep in mind that no party can be in power for ever and act without partiality,” Mr. Rambabu added. He said it was unfortunate that the police booked a case against Mr. Raja
