Three held in Hyderabad for smuggling ganja to Delhi

Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP) on Saturday arrested three persons on charges of smuggling marijuana from Rajahmundry to New Delhi by train.

Presenting the trio, Sachin Pandey (32) of Delhi, Danni Darmender Singh (32) and Subodh Singh (26), both natives of Uttar Pradesh, before the media here, Railways in-charge Superintendent of Police (Secunderabad Division) S Rajendra Prasad said 50 kg of dry marijuana concealed in 10 packets was seized from them.

The cost of the seized material was around Rs.7.50 lakh, he said. The police were conducting checking on Platform No.2 at the Secunderabad Railway Station when they found Darmender Singh and Subodh Singh moving under suspicious circumstances with two bags. The police opened the bags and found the marijuana concealed in 10 packets, which were covered with adhesive tape to prevent the smell from spreading. The duo reached the station in Godavari Express and was waiting for Pandey who was on his way on the Telangana Express when the police intercepted them.

Pandey was also detained as he reached. The trio was smuggling the material to Delhi to sell the marijuana to persons known to them, the police said.

The police said Pandey was working as a security guard while Subodh Singh and Darmender Singh were into agriculture. The police booked a case under provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
