TV serials need censor’s cut, says Nannapaneni

The Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission is in favour of enacting a law to bring television serials under the purview of the Censor Board, according to Nannapaneni Rajakumari, chairperson of the Commission.

She visited the city on Friday and interacted with women prisoners and girl students before addressing the media here.

Expressing concern over the content of certain serials being televised on various channels, Ms. Rajakumari observed that women were being portrayed as villains and anti-social elements in a few of them.

“Makers of such serials are focusing only on ratings and not on their impact on society. Women and girls are subjected to disgrace because of some serials,” she said, adding the Commission would not remain mute over the issue.

Observing an increase in the patients getting treated in the government hospitals, Ms. Rajakumari said it clearly indicated that the quality of treatment and facilities improved in the hospitals.

“I have seen two patients sharing one bed in some hospitals and the authorities expressed helplessness over the situation. There is an immediate need to increase the number of beds in the hospitals. The Commission will send a report to the government on this issue,” she said.
