Decomposed body of 70-year-old man found in Hyderabad apartment

Hyderabad: The highly decomposed body of a 70-year-old man, Lakshmi Narayana Murthy, was found in his apartment on the fifth floor of Sai Maruthi Residency in Nagole, LB Nagar police said here on Friday. Police are verifying doubts that he had died nearly a month ago.

According to the police, Murthy was staying alone for the last one month since his wife had gone to the US along with their two daughters.

The incident came to light late on Wednesday night when she, along with their daughters, returned and saw his decomposed body lying on the floor inside the apartment.

“Murthy died of a serious head injury. The incident could have occurred when he came out of the restroom and slipped. His head hit the wall, apparently leading to his death,” said P Kasi Reddy, Inspector, LB Nagar.

According to reports, Murthy is suspected to have died on August 18 after the fall. Since all the doors and windows were closed, other residents in the building did not get any foul smell. However, the police is yet to confirm this.

It is also suspected that he stepped on a lizard and fell, a police official said, pointing out that a dead lizard was found near his feet.

Murthy was reportedly not answering phone calls from his wife and two daughters in the US. They had initially assumed that he was unhappy with them, but with no response even after a month, they decided to return to Hyderabad and check.

A native of Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh, Murthy, a retired government employee, was not known to many in the apartment, with neighbours thinking the flat was locked from outside and that the owner lived in the US.
