Satish Dhawan Space Centre, formally known as Sriharikota High Altitude Range (SHAR), and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) are jointly organising a students’ outreach programme in East Godavari on October 5 and 6.

Addressing a media conference here on Tuesday, young scientists from the two organisations — G. Satyasundar and G. Venkatesh, along with R. David Kumar, principal, Government Arts College — said on the eve of World Space Week-2017, they were organising the programme to create awareness on space programmes among the students.

Mr. David Kumar said ISRO was conducting this programme every year and this year the scientists had selected Rajamahendravaram Arts College as the centre. He said about 40,000 school and college students from class I to postgraduate level would take part in this programme which includes documentaries on India’s development in space research and its victories, display of 10 models of rockets and other activities.

Mr. Kumar added that SHAR and ISRO would conduct different competitions for the students in essay writing, elocution, drawing and painting.

SHAR Director Kunni Krishna will participate to inaugurate the programme and Deputy Chief Minister N. Chinna Rajappa and others will take part to give away the prizes on the concluding day.
