Drew inspiration from Godavari fest, says CM

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday said the idea interlinking rivers and worshipping them by offering ‘harati’ struck him during Godavari Pushkarams in 2015.

Addressing the gathering after after performing puja to the Godavari river at Pushkara Ghat here, Mr. Naidu said it is the duty of the people to celebrate “Jalasiri Ki Harati” on the lines of other festivals irrespective of caste, religion and region.

“I have succeeded in completing Pattiseema in one year and Purushothapatnam in record time of nine months. My dream is to complete Polavaram and linking of rivers by taking up all the pending 28 irrigation projects along with Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanti, in two years,”he said.

Pat for women

Mr. Naidu said he would make an announcement on stipend to unemployed youth in a week.

He said top priority would be accorded to the three programmes — Vanam-Manam, interlinking of rivers and ‘Jalasiri Ki Harati. Addressing 181 newly appointed women police constables from 13 districts during the inauguration of the district police office, the Chief Minister said social problems could be solved by the women force in the department.

He said advanced technology was being used in the newly constructed office to curb crime.

He said appointment of women conductors and drivers in the RTC had led to increase in revenue and this also showed that they were more dedicated to work than men.
