Army truck rams into girder, 1 injured

Hyderabad: An army truck rammed into the height caution girder of a railway bridge and caused a pedestrian to be severely injured.

The Gandhinagar Police said that the truck was on its way from Bollarum to Mehdipatnam. At around 9.35 am, it reached the railway bridge near Bible House, where the driver misjudged the height of the vehicle and rammed into the caution girder. When he tried to move the vehicle forward, the caution girder collapsed.

Nagendra Babu, who had come from Rajahmundry to Hyderabad on Tuesday to look for a job, was severely injured. He was walking from Secunderabad Railway Station to a friend’s house at the time of the incident. He was immediately shifted to Gandhi Hospital.

Officials from the Law and Order Department, the Traffic Department and the GHMC rushed to the spot. The collapsed girder was cleared by 11.30 am. Until then, traffic had to be diverted to alternate routes towards Park Lane and Paradise Junction. Messages were circulated via social media urging people to avoid Patny Junction towards Bible House.

DCP (Traffic) L.S. Chauhan said that the police had taken immediate action and diverted vehicles towards MG Road to keep the traffic flowing freely.

“The traffic inspectors of Gopalpuram and Begumpet stations worked closely with the staff to ensure that the movement of traffic was not disrupted. Cranes and equipment were requisitioned from L&T, and the bridge was pulled aside. The road was opened to traffic within an hour,” he said.
