Relocation of liquor shops triggered protests at different places in East Godavari district on Wednesday. In Kamanagaruvu village of Amalapuram rural mandal, students of a high school attacked a liquor outlet which was relocated after it was shifted from the highway.
In Gudavalli Pallipalem village of Malikipuram mandal, women staged a rasta roko demanding that a wine shop in that area be closed immediately. About 150 women assembled in front of the shop and raised slogans against the government and forced its closure.
Women under the leadership of All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) took up agitation in Rajamahendravaram and staged a dharna in front of a liquor shop at Jampeta. AIDWA leaders said that they would intensify the agitation if the government fails to concede their demand.
