Akhanda Godavari: nine tourism projects to be ready for launch in Sept.

AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) has identified nine projects in East Godavari district for the promotion of local and international tourism under Akhanda Godavari Project (AGP), which was announced during Godavari Pushkarams by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The State government has released ₹68 crore for these projects and all the projects are going to ground in September this year.

According to G. Bheemasankaram, Project Director of AGP, most of the projects are under progress and Kakinada Beach front Development (KBD) project which has taken up prestigiously at ₹46 crore will be completed by next month.

Under KBD, infrastructure will be developed in 50 acres and the Tourism Department is constructing big water fountain, facility for laser show, shops and drains. The AGP Project Director said that they want to develop 12 acres under PPP mode under which one multiplex, one three-star hotel, amusement park and cottages are proposed.

Buddhist tourism

Aimed at developing Buddhist tourism in the district, the AGP has included Adurru Buddhist site in its development project. The government has sanctioned ₹8 crore for this site through which the AGP will construct a floating jetty, arrange house boats from the Godavari to Adurru and widening and strengthening of road from river to Buddhist site and Boating Passenger Terminal. The total cost of the development of this site would be around ₹8 crore.

The AGP projects including Pasarlapudi highway construction, arranging floating jetty at Kotipalli pilgrim centre with ₹2.5 crore and other infrastructure facilities like cafeteria, toilet blocks, pathways and land scaping.

Coringa sanctuary

Though it is under wildlife sanctuary, the AGP is going to develop parking slots, food courts and Interpretation Centre.

The Tourism Department is also going to develop new double road with ₹2.5 crore and develop jetty in Hope Island with ₹8 lakh.

According to Mr. Bheemasankaram, they have designed five new wooden cottages at Vanavihari in Maredumilli in Agency of East Godavari which is going to be a good model. Each cottage was constructed at ₹8 lakh.

Most attractive project for tourists is amphibious vehicle, which looks like a bus and made in USA. It can travel on road and also on water.

“It will be introduced first near Gutala and then will bring it to Saraswathi ghat in Rajamahendravaram to take tourists,” he said.
