The ITDA, Rampachodavaram general body meeting has resolved to take up construction of a resorts complex at Maredumilli at a cost of Rs. 8 crore.
Chairman and East Godavari district Collector H. Arun Kumar, who chaired the meeting on Tuesday, said the complex would have 20 cottages, a hotel, a swimming pool, wayside amenities and a petrol pump. It would provide direct and indirect employment to local tribal people through various tourism packages which would also protect environment in Rampachodavaram and Maredumilli Agency area. He said the administration would conduct the quarterly and annual meetings without fail.
Action against school
At the beginning of the meeting, members raised various issues including alleged ill-treatment of ST students by the Director of Holy Angels School, Rajamahendravaram and suspension of an employee in the Bommuru tribal school.
Reacting to the queries, the Collector said they had issued a direction to book an SC, ST case on Mr. Madhusudhana Rao, director of the school, and asked the assistant tribal welfare officer (ATWO) to inspect the school every month and submit a report on its maintenance.
He said one ATWO was suspended with regard to the Bommuru tribal Ashram school incident, where girls were assaulted sexually.
He said they had filled 120 teacher posts out of 165 through a special DSC in the Agency and in the next academic year they wanted to fill 340 posts in both the ITDAs (Chinturu and Rampachodavaram) through the DSC.
Specialist doctors were not coming forward to work in Chinturu and Addateegala though the government was ready to pay Rs. 1.30 lakh per month. Hence, they were requesting the PG students of the Kakinada government college to work in the Agency areas at least once a month.
Mandal headquarters
To a question, the Collector said there was a proposal to make Donkarai as mandal headquarters and it was pending with the Land Commissioner.
The Collector said the Polavaram R and R package amount would be distributed under the 2013 Act and the administration would provide 150 working days under the tribal rights Act to each tribal.
T. Ratnabai, Rajya Sabha member, alleged that the ITDA officials were increasing the construction costs by delaying many works, including roads and buildings.
A.S. Dinesh Kumar, Project Officer, ITDA said there was no such delay in the last three months and gave an assurance to inquire into the matter.
