The Panjagutta police on Wednesday arrested a notorious habitual inter-State criminal and recovered 14 Laptops and 16 mobile phones of various companies all worth Rs 6 lakh at his instance.
According to A Venkateshwar Rao, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, West Zone, the accused Shaik Riyazuddin, 33, belongs to Peddacheruvu in Narsaraopet mandal of Guntur district. He said the accused studied up to Intermediate and started working as a driver. Addicted to liquor and other bad habits and stays in hotels and lodges, Riyazuddin started committing theft of cell phones and laptops from students hotels since 2005. Earlier, he was arrested by police of Old Guntur PS, Narasaraopet, Tenali III Town, Nagarjunasagar PS, Kukatpally PS, V.Kota police of Chittoor district, Prakashnagar police of Rajahmundry and Government Railway Police Guntur, he stated. 
The DCP said the modus operandi of the accused is that he takes shelter in student hostel for a day and lifts cell phones and laptops from rooms when the students go out for lunch or dinner and disappears. The DCP appealed to the general public not to believe the strangers. If unidentified persons seek shelter in a hostel, the owners should collect their identity proofs and cell phone numbers. If any stranger behaves suspiciously, the hostel managements should immediately inform the nearest police station. He also appealed to the students not to leave their valuables in their rooms but keep them in a safe locker. (NSS)
