There are three contenders for the post which holds cabinet rank: Senior  TDP leader and party State official spokesperson Ganni Krishna,  former Minister and Rajamahendravaram  rural MLA  Gorantla  Buchaiah  Chowdary and former  Minister and five-time MLA  Chikkala Ramachandra Rao.

Nine Assembly segments in the district come under the purview of GUDA-Rajamahendravaram city, Rajamahendravaram rural, Rajanagram, Prathipadu, PeddapuramPithapuramJaggampeta, Kakinada rural and Kakinada urban.

The Central government has decided to develop Vizag– Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC) and Sagarnala   along the coast line in the State. Besides this, another RLNG project which is a joint collaboration between AP Gas Distribution Authority, Shell Corporation and Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) is expected to materialise in the next two years, along with the execution of Krishna-Godavari LNG terminal.

The district had been on a rapid industrialisation mode for some time now which led to the formation of GUDA. Against this backdrop, the post of chairman of GUDA assumes significance. Speaking to The Hans India, Chikkala Ramachandra Rao said that he had never lobbied, or aspired for any posts in his career spanning more than three-and-a-half decades.

He said that he would be content with whatever responsibility the party gave him and vowed to discharge it diligently. Ganni Krishna said he had been a loyal servant of the party since its inception in 1982. He also said that he would accept whatever responsibility the Chief Minister gave him.
