Venue of Kanhaiya's Meeting Changed

VIJAYAWADA: The venue of the meeting to be addressed by JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar on Thursday was changed to IV Palace in Governorpet here from PB Siddhartha College.
According to Akkineni Chandra Rao of All India Progressive Forum, Krishna district unit, the change was necessitated due to ‘technical reasons’. Interestingly, the change of venue took place after reports of BJYM asserting that it would obstruct Kanhaiya Kumar’s programme in the city.
Though there was no need for police permission, since the programme was being organised indoors, the cops, kept a close watch on how the public meeting would turn out, particularly in the wake of the BJYM deciding to disrupt it. The police said, forces would be deployed at the venue of the public meeting to prevent break down of law and order.Meanwhile, the student organisations’ Joint Action Committee had warned BJYM of serious consequences if it tried to obstruct the programme. The ultimatum was issued in the wake of reported announcement of the BJYM of its intentions to obstruct the proposed programme of Kanhaiya.
CPI state secretary K Ramakrishna also found fault with the BJYM statement and said that the entire world was watching the oppressive tactics of the BJP and its frontal organisations to stifle the voice of democracy. He advised the BJP and its frontal organisations to express their opposition to the view of Kanhaiya and others by organising a separate meeting, but it is illegal and undemocratic to say they will not allow JNUSU leader to speak in Vijayawada. At any cost, the meeting will be held and called upon people to make it a success, he added.
