Sugar dealers challenge order

 At the Andhra Pradesh High Court yesterday, Mr. Justice Gopalakrishnan Nair admitted a batch of 21 writ petitions filed by wholesale sugar merchants challenging the order of the Andhra Pradesh Government issued on June 23 under Rule 125 ( 2) of the Defence of India Rules regulating the wholesale distribution of sugar allotted to the State. According to the order, the distribution is to be done through the co- operative societies holding licences under the Andhra Pradesh Sugar Dealers Licensing Order, 1963, and chosen by the District Collector concerned, to the extent of 100 per cent of the quota of sugar allotted to the Hyderabad district and of 50 per cent of the quota of sugar allotted to the other districts of the State. The remaining 50 per cent of the quota of sugar allotted to the districts other than Hyderabad can be distributed through any other dealer or dealers holding licence or licences under the Andhra Pradesh Sugar Dealers Licensing Order, 1963.
