Anantapur:  PCC president and former minister N Raghuveera Reddy lashed out at the incompetence of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for his failure to convince the Centre in granting special category status to the State. Congress leaders take part in relay fastExpress concern over meagre allocation for Polavaram Project

Participating in a relay hunger strike in the town demanding special category status on Monday along with former minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy and former PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, Raghuveera said that the Central government should make it clear immediately whether it would accord special status to Andhra Pradesh or not. He accused the Central and State governments of being indifferent to the plight of the people.

The PCC chief was dismayed that the Centre washed its hands off the Polavaram project just by sanctioning Rs 100 crore when a total amount of Rs 16,000 crore was required for completing the project. How can they complete the project with such a meagre amount, he asked and added that it reflected on the incompetence of the Chief Minister.

The PCC president said that the Congressmen would continue to wage struggle to get Rs 5 lakh crore sanctioned from the Centre. He alleged that both the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister have been doing immense harm to the State. Speaking to the media, Anam Ramanarayana Reddy criticised the Central government for showing a step-motherly treatment toward the State. He said that it was unfortunate that the Central government failed to honour the provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act with regard to Andhra Pradesh.

The NDA government did not make any budgetary allocations to the State, he lamented and wondered as to why the TDP government was reluctant to lead an all-party delegation to New Delhi to press the demand for special category status. Botcha Satyanarayana warned that the district would not get a single drop of water if the Pattiseema project was completed. He said that Rayalaseema would get water only if the Polavaram project was completed. He accused Chandrababu Naidu of enacting political dramas and misleading the people.
