Eluru: Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana said on Thursday that the district administration would submit a detailed report to the State government after scouting lands at various places for setting up the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in West Godavari district.

A team comprising the Ministry of Human Resource Development’s Joint Secretary Sandhu and State Higher Education Principal Secretary Sumita Dawra along with Minister Narayana and Eluru MP Maganti Babu inspected lands at Bhogapuram in Vatluru mandal. Later, they also examined facilities at the CR Reddy Engineering College to set up an NIT on temporary basis. Maganti Babu informed the Minister and the officials that if NIT was to be set up near Vatluru then it would be convenient for everyone as the location is three kilometres away from the national highway and close to Gannavaram airport.

He also brought to the notice of the officials and the Minister that flights were available on daily basis between Gannavaram and New Delhi. He pointed out that if NIT came up near Vatlur then educational institutions would come up in and around Eluru which would be beneficial to students. He requested the officials and Narayana to take the decision at the earliest for setting up NIT. ZP Chairman Mullapudi Bapi Raju proposed Nallajarla area as the ideal place for setting up the NIT.

He requested the officials and Minister Narayana to inspect the place and hand over NIT as gift to people of West Godavari district. Earlier, Eluru Mayor Shaik Nurjahan welcomed Minister Narayana by handing him over a bouquet. District Collector Dr Katamneni Bhaskar, RDO N Tej Bharat, other officials and political leaders were present.
