GUNTUR:Two schoolstudents drowned in Nagarjuna Sagar canal at Sivapuram Thanda within the limits of the Nakrekal police station here Friday.
According to police, three students K Sailaja (12), Syed Naik (12) and V Barma Naik (12) went to the canal for a swim and drowned. Hearing their cry for help, a washerwoman, R Ramli Bhai, threw a saree at them in an effort to rescue them. However, only Barma Naik could catch hold of it and swim to safety while the other two perished. Efforts are on to trace the bodies of drowned students.
